Description: Skye never questioned the story of her life. Her Aunt Jo adopted her after the death of her parents when she was just a child, and together they flip through memories the way some people flip through photo albums. She never questioned if the stories were true. Until the night of her 17th birthday, when the arrival of two strangers intrudes on her cozy life. Polar opposites, like fire and ice, Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair, cold, and aloof. Skye has no idea what they want—only that their presence coincides with the beginning of some shockingly strange events. Events that Skye, if she dares to think it, might be responsible for causing.  High up in the mountains of Boulder, Colorado, Skye finds herself caught in the middle of an ancient battle, one that began untold millennia ago. Torn between unpredictable Asher, whom she loves, and the infuriating Devin, who she can’t stay away from, her fate is murky as a starless night. And as the secrets of her true identity are revealed, Skye realizes that her destiny may reside in the Heavens—or somewhere darker.

I hate having mixed feelings about a book.  It makes me feel indecisive.   There are aspects of this book that I really enjoyed.  But, there were others that I really could have done without.  Plus, there were times that I really just wanted it to get to the point.

I did enjoy Skye's character.  I liked the relationships she formed with her friends and especially with her Aunt Joy.  She seems like a genuine person who is easy to like and read about.  I also enjoyed learning about her history and who her mom and dad really were.  I also enjoyed Skye's journey to discover what this means for her and who she will become.  While, she couldn't figure out exactly what she was capable of and how to trigger it, I had a pretty good idea.  I especially enjoyed the mythology that went along with all of this.

So what didn't I like...the love triangle.  I really just didn't feel it.  These 2 guys just show up in her life and cause an absolute commotion.  She quickly starts to withdraw from her friends because she so busy trying to meet their terms.  But, yet the never tell her the full truth.  And I really disliked Devin. It felt like he was constantly belittling her because she couldn't do as much as he thought she should be able to.  So much time was spent just the 3 of them, that I got a little tired of it.  I wanted the story to quite trying to develop the romantic aspects and move forward.

I was actually really surprised by the ending.  I didn't get the impression this was going to be a series, but the ending left me thinking otherwise.  I enjoyed the twist of events.  Skye really proves what she can do.  I thought Devin proved himself a little in the end.  Maybe he had a good reason to be an ass...  I'm curious what happens next if the story continues.

  1. I really am SO over love triangles. Especially when they are only there to create tension. Sigh. No bueno. Sorry you didn't love this one. The cover is pretty, but Paranormal has never been my favorite, so I hadn't really thought to read this one yet. I might read a few more reviews, but I'll probably just skip this one...
